Magaluf’s Bold Transformation Towards a New Era of Quality Tourism & Cultural Experiences in Calvià

The city of Magaluf in the Mallorcan municipality of Calvià, is transforming as a tourist destination, building a new identity based on quality, diversifying its offerings, and attracting a more environmentally conscious visitor. This evolution reflects its ambitious vision for the future, focused on revitalising the destination and building a more balanced and purposeful tourism offering.

As the region undergoes this transformation, Calvià has created a host of new experiences such as a new walking trail named the “selfie route” and “Calvià, Film Set”, both new for 2026, as well as the modernisation of existing infrastructure such as the Seafront Promenade and Punta Ballena area. Additionally, a range of new five-star hotel openings are bolstering the destination’s premium tourism offering, along with the development of a cultural and leisure programme that aims to actively contribute to the deseasonalisation and continued renewal of the destination.

Opening of the new Seafront Promenade: a new social and cultural hub

One of the most significant milestones in this process will be the opening of the second phase of the new Magaluf seafront promenade, renamed the Paseo Gabriel Escarrer Juliá, scheduled for 27 June. The opening will be celebrated with a major cultural event showcasing this urban transformation, featuring a special open-air concert by the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra, accompanied by artistic performances and cultural activities in a revitalised coastal setting. The new waterfront space will become a key meeting point for Magaluf’s social, cultural, and tourist scene, reinforcing its role as a venue for experiences open to residents and visitors alike.

Culture, Creativity, and New Narratives

The boost to culture is also reflected in innovative projects like “Calvià, Film Set,” an initiative that positions the municipality as a location for international filming. Calvià has long served as a backdrop for international productions. Now, visitors can follow in the footsteps of film crews and actors, discovering the real-life settings behind some of the most recognisable titles filmed on the island.

This project highlights the destination’s diverse landscapes and urban environments, with locations ranging from the crystal coves of Magaluf, Palmanova, and Illetes, to the natural enclaves and unique landscapes of Portals Vells, Caló d’en Monjo, and the Galatzó Public Estate, locations that have long hosted international film productions and reinforce Calvià‘s appeal as a natural set for new stories.

In addition, Magaluf’s “selfie route” has now launched; a tourist experience by TURS take your selfie, featuring smart signage that allows visitors to take photos independently at various points throughout the destination. The route will feature several photo displays on Passeig Calvià and the beach, and will soon be extended to the Torre de Torrenova area, showcasing the diversity of Magaluf, from its rural landscapes and iconic coastline to more urban and modern views.

 

Magaluf, a venue for major cultural and professional events

Magaluf is also reinforcing its position as a venue for major cultural and professional events diversifying the destination’s offerings and generating activity throughout the year.

The upcoming edition of Conecta, from 25-28 May, is a prime example of how Magaluf aims to host world-class international conferences throughout the destination. This leading international gathering of the audiovisual industry will bring together professionals, creators, platforms, production companies, distributors and agents from across the tourism, cultural and creative sectors, transforming the destination into a hub for talent, innovation and the development of projects on a global scale. The event also provides a platform to showcase the destination as a filming location and creative hub, supporting long-term opportunities in the audiovisual sector and strengthening its international profile.

Meanwhile, La Mostra is establishing itself as one of the municipality’s most iconic cultural and gastronomic events, bringing together nearly 60 restaurants from Calvià this year. The initiative offers a gastronomic journey through the destination via special menus, bringing local cuisine into everyday life and creating experiences that combine local produce, regional flavours, and hospitality. It also contributes to revitalising the municipality and reducing tourism seasonality, reinforcing Calvià‘s identity as a diverse and evolving gastronomic destination.
