One of the world’s most extraordinary golfing experiences is back. The legendary Extreme 19th, located at the renowned Legend Golf & Safari Resort, is officially re-opening on the 7th of May, inviting golfers and adventure seekers to once again take on the most dramatic par-3 in the world of golf.
Perched high on Hanglip Mountain, the Extreme 19th is globally celebrated as the longest and most thrilling par-3 hole in golf. Accessible only by helicopter, players tee off from the breathtaking Hanglip Mountain, launching their ball over vast bushveld terrain toward a green shaped like the African continent, almost 400 meters below.
The return of this iconic hole marks an exciting moment for both local and international golf enthusiasts. Following a 7 year closure, the Extreme 19th has been upgraded and refined to mark the start of a new era at Legend Golf & Safari Resort. One defined not just by scale and spectacle, but by precision, technology, and a deeply immersive player journey.
A DIGITAL-FIRST GOLF EXPERIENCE
The relaunch introduces a sophisticated integration of tracking technology, broadcast-quality visuals, and personalised data capture.
At the centre of this evolution is the implementation of FlightScope — bringing elite-level shot tracking to one of the most dramatic tee shots in the world.
Players will now experience:
• Full ball-flight tracking from mountain summit to green.
• Launch data insights including speed, trajectory, and carry distance.
• Post-shot analytics delivered as part of a personalised digital record.
Complementing this is a network of strategically positioned high-definition cameras, capturing every moment of the journey:
• Cinematic tee-off footage from the mountain.
• Ball-flight tracking visuals in real time.
• On-green confirmation and player reactions.
This content is curated into a personalised digital package, allowing players to relive and share their experience — transforming a single shot into a lasting, high-value memory.
“We are thrilled to welcome players back to the Extreme 19th, and more than that to relaunch it as part of seven unique golf experiences at Legend —The Legend Seven.” said Peet Cilliers, founder of Legend Golf & Safari Resort. “The Legend Seven includes a few old favourites reimagined along with exciting new additions. One destination, seven unique golfing experiences with conservation as foundation.”
Another old favourite and world-first that has already been renovated and reopened is Legend’s Tribute Golf Course, a ten-hole course which pays homage to the greatest par 3 golf holes ever designed. The world renowned 18-Signatures Golf Course will also be relaunched alongside The Extreme 19th. This championship course was designed by 18 different golf professionals from 15 countries including names such as Justin Rose, Sergio Garcia, Retief Goosen, and Padraig Harrington.
Golfers brave enough to take on the Extreme 19th will once again have the chance to make history. Bookings are now open and demand is expected to be high as the Extreme 19th reclaims its place among the most unforgettable golfing experiences on Earth.
